Hammock bye-bye

According to Amazon, I purchased my first hammock in October 2013. I've been sleeping in one since, trying out a few different types over the years or just replacing one as it wears out and gets a rip.

I've sort of wanted and claimed to want my next "bed" to be a waterbed, but that should happen only after I move. Plus I'm renting and it might technically be forbidden in the contract, I don't remember...

But last month, I purchased a made-in-Japan Japanese style futon, and a small raised all-wood and slats bedframe to raise it on (about 12 inches) instead of on the floor directly. It's a twin XL for the extra length as I'm tall.

It's been about 3 weeks with it now, I'm going to keep it. I still love the hammock, and I do think it's comfier, but this new mode has some upsides. One, my back is significantly warmer, so I can get away with a colder room. Two, I'm having way more dreams. Most of them weird, and a lot of them nostalgic and a bit melancholic. A lot are also half-dreams where I'm partially aware of being in my room in my bed but still mostly asleep -- like the most recent one today, I so clearly heard my old cat's meow and could feel him jumping up to sleep next to me... But he's been gone for almost 8 years.

It gives me a bit less space overall in my room than the hammock due to the nature of being a box footprint instead of a frame, but that's ok. I can still put stuff under it, and such stuff might stay less dusty since it's not directly exposed to the air. We'll see.

So, after nearly 12 years of hammock sleeping, I've finally moved on. Maybe still a waterbed one day. My brother had one growing up, but it didn't survive the move, so I haven't slept in one since I was like 8 or 9, and it was his bed so I mostly didn't sleep in it anyway. Prior to the hammock, I mostly slept in a cot, and an air mattress before that (though it kept leaking and sometimes I'd just accept it and sleep on the floor with it deflated beneath me for a few days). Before that, when I was still living at home, it was a normal twin spring mattress.

I'm cautiously optimistic that the big increase in dreams will be good for my psyche somehow.

(In the very unlikely event I ever get in a relationship, an additional perk would be that this twin xl would enable cuddling so long as she's small...)
